Martín López Zubero, Nina Zhivanevskaya, Mireia Belmonte y… Hugo González. El mallorquín se unió este viernes al selecto ramillete de nadadores españoles que se han colgado el oro en unos Mundiales, tras conquistar los 200 metros espalda de Doha. El pasado martes, con su plata en los 100, ya se había estrenado en el conjunto de medallistas, que no es mucho más amplio: sumen a Melani Costa, Rafa Muñoz, Aschin Wildeboer y Jessica Vall. El título mundial le eleva a otra dimensión. Es un oro que catapulta por fin a un talentoso buceador, que brotó en España y creció en Estados Unidos, que no siempre había exprimido lo mejor de sí. Desde proporcionadamente novato cargó con la formalidad de sucesor de Mireia, una tremenda responsabilidad. Ha tenido destellos puntuales, como sus tres medallas de tres colores en los Europeos de Budapest 2021, o su presencia en finales olímpicas, o actuaciones americanas como su conquista sobre Leo Marchand. Pero le faltaba un éxito así, un puñetazo en el agua, para reivindicarse como Hugo González de Oliveira, no el sucesor de nadie.
El oro de Hugo es, por otra parte, el colofón de una gran comportamiento española en los Mundiales Acuáticos, donde, por primera vez en la historia, se han rematado medallas en las cinco disciplinas: buceo, aguas abiertas, sincronizada, waterpolo y saltos. Dos de ellas, la plata de María de Valdés y el bronce de Adrián Monasterio y Nicolás García Boissier, en territorios menos explorados. De momento van nueve metales, pero pueden caer más. Alguno puede contradecir que las atípicas fechas y las ausencias han retocado algunos podios. Quizá. Pero la cosecha, con plazas olímpicas en palestra, asimismo supone un impulso alrededor de los Juegos de París. Y la confirmación de que la buceo española, tras los ahogos de los últimos abriles, es más que la Mireiadependencia, la sincrodependencia y la waterpolodependencia… Dicho con todo respeto y maravilla.
