El chileno Joaquín Niemann se impuso este domingo en el torneo mexicano de Mayakoba en el LIV Golf tras cuatro hoyos de desempate sobre Sergio García, segundo, y sobre el igualmente gachupin Jon Rahm, empatado en el tercer oficio con el sudafricano Dean Burmester.
Niemann y García se batieron en cuatro hoyos de desempate, el final casi sin luz de sol en el campo de ‘El camaleón’, en la Riviera Maya de México. En la tercera y última ronda en Mayakoba, Niemann finalizó con 70 golpes, mientras que García tuvo 66 impactos, para que uno y otro totalizaran 201 a posteriori de los tres días de actividad, lo que obligó a cuatro hoyos para desigualar que ganó el sudamericano.
El campeón del Máster de Augusta Jon Rahm vivió un polémico estreno en LIV, circuito financiado por el Fondo de Inversión Pública de Arabia Saudí, con una última ronda en México de 70 golpes, para datar a 203 y conquistar el tercer puesto contiguo a Burmester a posteriori de su buena actuación durante la segunda jornada.
Niemann, quien se mantuvo en el primer oficio en los tres días de Mayakoba, se embolsó 4 millones de dólares por cobrar el certamen que inaugura la tercera campaña; García se llevó 2,250 millones de dólares y Rahm, 1,5.
Adicionalmente, los igualmente españoles Eugenio López-Chacarra y David Puig finalizaron en trigésimo segunda y trigésimo octava posición, respectivamente. En la clasificación por equipos, el Legión XIII de Rahm fue el líder, los Crushers segundos y el Torque de Niemann, Muñoz, el mexicano Carlos Ortiz y el chileno Mito Pereira, tercero.
