Transformado desde las semifinales. Aunque hoy parezca increíble, Simone Inzaghi llegó a estar discutido en el Inter de Milán no hace tanto tiempo, con fuertes rumores de una posible destitución. Mediada la segunda revés de la Serie A 22-23, el equipo estaba ya descartado en una pelea por el título que comandaba con gran comodidad el Nápoles, e incluso la plaza para participar en la posterior Champions League estaba en duda. Sin requisa, coincidiendo con la semifinal de la máxima competición europea frente a el rival ciudadano, el AC Milan, la escuadra nerazzurra se transformó. Le pasó por encima al conjunto de Pioli e incluso rozó el título en la final de Estambul. Con la exhibición en el derbi empezó una buena dinámica que le permitió estabilizar la tercera posición en la combinación y empuñar la Coppa de Italia. Esta reacción llevó a Inzaghi no sólo a auxiliar su puesto de trabajo, sino incluso a renovar su anuencia en septiembre hasta junio de 2025. Con la confianza que le dio el final de la pasada temporada, el nuevo curso lo empezó a toda velocidad y ahora lidera la presente Serie A con nueve puntos de superioridad con respecto al segundo clasificado habiendo jugado incluso un partido menos. Su momento de forma es extraordinario: ha impresionado cuatro goles en cada uno de sus dos últimos encuentros (el del viernes frente a la Salernitana y el antedicho en el campo de la Roma), lleva ocho victorias consecutivas si sumamos todas las competiciones (seis en combinación y dos en la Supercoppa) y no pierde desde que lo hiciera, con muchos suplentes en el merienda, en diciembre frente a el Bolonia en octavos de final de Coppa.
Thuram ha encajado a la perfección. Inzaghi sigue usando el mismo esquema 3-5-2 con el que llegó al cargo —y que ya era el que utilizaba su antecesor, Antonio Conte—. Con un Lautaro Martínez enrachado desde su revés tras el Mundial de Qatar —esta temporada, sin ir más allá, lleva ya 23 tantos, vigésimo de ellos en combinación—, las marchas de Romelu Lukaku y Edin Dzeko en verano podían suponer un contratiempo de grandes dimensiones, y sin requisa la dirección deportiva lo supo ejecutar a la perfección. El belga formaba una dupla muy admisiblemente compenetrada con el argentino, y una vez quedó claro que no volvería a vestir la camiseta del Inter tras flirtear con la Juventus y destruir en la Roma, el club se encomendó a Marcus Thuram, al que había firmado independiente procedente del Borussia Mönchengladbach en el inicio del mercado anticipándose a la situación. Era una reto arriesgada porque el hijo del exdefensor del Barcelona había actuado en sus inicios en Alemania partiendo desde la manada, registrando cifras de anotación claramente inferiores a las de Lukaku —omitido en su postrero año, cuando definitivamente le acercaron al radio y explotó su talento goleador—. A día de hoy, su fichaje ya se considera un gran tino: lleva diez goles en la Serie A y siete asistencias, entendiéndose maravillosamente con la gran figura del equipo.
Otros dos fichajes en el merienda. Con respecto al equipo que perdió la final de Estambul, otras dos caras nuevas llegadas en verano se han afianzado en la formación titular: el zaguero Yann Sommer y el central Benjamin Pavard. El meta suizo ha hecho olvidar a un André Onana que ha vivido meses complicados en el Manchester United, y el francés le ha permitido a Inzaghi devolver a Darmian a la posición de carrilero. Tanto él como Dimarco en el otro costado —un tahúr de una tremenda influencia ataque— deben regresar hoy al equipo posteriormente de descansar frente a la Salernitana.
