A los 82 primaveras falleció ayer en Porvenir el conocido carpintero chilote e intérprete del acordeón, Sergio Roberto Cárdenas Alvarez, padre del comunicador social Sergio Cárdenas y del director de la Casa Municipal de la Civilización fueguina, Fredy Cárdenas. Cárdenas Alvarez había nacido en el sector de Huenao, Curaco de Vélez (Chiloé) en 1941 y a la etapa de 17 primaveras viajó y se radicó en Porvenir, donde contrajo bodorrio con su coterránea Edith Mansilla Alarcón, con quien tuvo 4 hijos, quienes les dieron siete nietos.
Como carpintero participó en la construcción de la Gobierno de Tierra del Fuego (coetáneo edificio de la Delegación Presidencial) y ejerció en las empresas de Manuel Loncón y Alberto Cuevas, hasta que se independizó con su propio taller, ganando gran prestigio profesional. Fue todavía un serio cultor del acordeón, que tocaba en fiestas familiares y de amigos.
Barragana de la buena mesa, solía tener muchos invitados a sus tertulias de mediodía y confusión, incólume los domingo, que los reservaba para practicar su fe católica. Los funerales de don Sergio Cárdenas Alvarez serán hoy, partiendo del Centro Social Hijos de Chiloé de Porvenir, donde se hace su velorio, a las 14 horas, para continuar al Santuario Jesús Azotado, donde habrá un responso en su memoria para seguir al Cementerio Municipal, donde será sepultado.
