El capital saudí está provocando un ayer y un posteriormente en el deporte internacional. Su inclusión en las competiciones más importantes del mundo a través de fichajes millonarios, ordenamiento de eventos e importantes patrocinios ha generado una situación en absoluto clarividencia en un panorama tradicional marcada por el dominio europeo y estadounidense.
En los últimos tiempos, España parece entrar directamente en sus planes y sus grandes nombres en el objetivo. Rafa Nadal como embajador del tenis saudí, Rahm como destino de su circuito de golf y el patrocinio principal en el simio de Fernando Alonso han sido los últimos grandes movimientos de esta logística.
Con tres métodos distintos han conseguido un idéntico resultado: Arabia Saudí ‘adquisición’ la imagen de las tres grandes estrellas del deporte castellano para su beneficio en imagen y repercusión.
Nadal, el extremo en ‘caer’
El último fichaje saudí es Rafa Nadal. En una comunicación de impacto que ha sorprendido al mundo, el tenista balear ha firmado un acuerdo “a desprendido plazo” con el régimen para ser embajador de la Agrupación Saudí de Tenis. Según el comunicado donde se anunciaba la colaboración, “la superestrella española pasará tiempo dedicado en el Reino cada año para ayudar a nutrir y planificar el crecimiento de niños y niñas en este deporte”. Ayer de alucinar a Australia, Nadal ya realizó su primera encuentro al país.

Adicionalmente, la STF abre la posibilidad de una unión mucho más firme que unas visitas anuales del 22 veces campeón de Grand Slam. Se señala que ya se están “poniendo en marcha planes” para desplegar en el país una nueva sede de la Rafa Nadal Academy. “Dondequiera que mires en Arabia Saudita, puedes ver crecimiento y progreso y estoy entusiasmado de ser parte de eso”, declaró el tenista en el comunicado presentación.
Contar con Nadal es solo uno de los primeros pasos para el sueño faraónico de Arabia Saudí con el tenis. Tras hacerse con la ordenamiento de la NextGen, el torneo de maestros de los jugadores jóvenes, ya sueñan con hacerse con el décimo Masters 1000 de la temporada y entrar en el foco con los mejores tenistas del mundo en sus pistas.
El multimillonario fichaje de Rahm
La captación de Nadal llega pocas semanas posteriormente de uno de los grandes golpes de emoción del Fondo Soberano Saudí en el deporte mundial con un deportista castellano como protagonista: el fichaje de Jon Rahm por el LIV, circuito saudí que está rompiendo los esquemas tradicionales del golf.
El golfista de Barrika dejaba el hasta ahora hegemónico PGA Tour ajustado ayer de las fechas navideñas para ser anunciado como la nueva destino de la competición creada en 2022. A cambio de un valía de 500 millones de dólares, el participante castellano tomaba una atrevimiento incluso inesperada por sus críticas previas al transgresor formato de maniobra de tres jornadas y su postura por ‘lo tradicional’ del golf. Finalmente, en medio de una sucesión de circunstancias, traiciones y mucho, mucho dinero le hacía entrar incluso la salario de estrellas bajo el paraguas saudí.
El fichaje de Rahm es un ataque directo a la diámetro de flotación del PGA, que hasta ahora había contado con los mejores jugadores del mundo. La salida del castellano obliga a los estadounidenses a una negociación para no perder a sus estrellas y perder el dominio del golf.
Fernando Alonso y el millonario patrocinio de Aston Martin
Un caso diferente es el del piloto de Fórmula 1, Fernando Alonso. Desde su arribada a la escudería Aston Martin ha espléndido el patrocinio de Aramco, una compañía saudí que explota petróleo, gas y productos petroquímicos. A partir de la próxima temporada 2024, la firma será el patrocinador principal y aparecerá en el nombre oficial durante el Mundial.
Aramco es la segunda empresa más valiosa del mundo (solo por detrás de Apple y por delante de Microsoft) con un valía de 1.887 billones de dólares y se convierte así en el gran sustento financiero de la escudería dirigida por Lawrence Stroll y, por lo tanto, el valedor del acuerdo del dos veces campeón del mundo.
Tres estrellas españolas… y mucho más
Las tres grandes estrellas del deporte castellano se suman así a la campaña de sportwashing realizada por Arabia Saudí en los últimos abriles. En la larga serie de fichajes y logros, se suman a los fichajes de Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar y Benzema para su liga de fútbol, la más que cantada ordenamiento del Mundial de fútbol masculino 2036, la adquisición del Newcastle inglés, grandes premios de Fórmula 1 o incluso la inclusión en los deportes de invierno con los Juegos Asiáticos de Invierno 2029.
Mención diferente merece el acuerdo de la Efectivo Agrupación Española de Fútbol con el régimen saudí para la celebración de la Supercopa de España a cambio de 40 millones de euros por temporada. En el inicio de 2024 se ha celebrado la cuarta edición el suelo saudí a lo que hay que sumar una publicación más que se celebró en Andalucía por motivo del COVID pero que estuvo afectado por grandes lonas del patrocinio del país del Vagabundo delante unas gradas vacías.
